AC-3 is the classic Dolby Digital format. It is widely compatible, compact, and reliable on older TVs, players and basic home-theater setups. It works well for ordinary viewing and compatibility-first situations, but is less premium than TrueHD, DTS-HD MA or Atmos. If stable playback matters most, AC-3 is still useful.
