HEVC, also called H.265 or x265, is one of the common codecs for 4K releases. Its main advantage is efficiency: it can keep 2160p, high-bitrate and HDR video in a more manageable file size. Most recent TVs, computers, phones and media boxes can hardware-decode HEVC. If playback stutters on old devices, the issue is often decoder support rather than the file itself.
