SDR means standard dynamic range, in contrast to HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. It describes brightness and color range, not resolution, so 2160p or 4K SDR is entirely valid: the image can still have 4K detail without an HDR signal. SDR is broadly compatible and can avoid poor tone mapping that makes HDR look too dark, tinted or clipped on unsupported displays.
